Kozhikode, Sept 06: Vadi Husna Public School has become the first school in Kerala where the entire teaching and non-teaching staff have been trained as First Responders, equipped to provide critical lifesaving interventions during emergencies.
The initiative was jointly organised by Aster Medcity and the Wisdom4Future Initiative of Wisdom Development Foundation, through which the entire staff of Vadi Husna Public School were trained and recognised as First Responders of Kerala.
In emergencies, including cardiac arrest, every second is critical. The right intervention during the first few minutes—before professional medical assistance reaches the scene—can play a decisive role in saving a life. Recognising this, comprehensive lifesaving training was provided to the entire school staff together.
As part of the training, the staff received both theoretical and hands-on training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), choking management, and other essential emergency response procedures.
Teachers and other school staff play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of students. If a student experiences a medical emergency on the school campus, trained staff can initiate essential lifesaving measures even before an ambulance or professional medical assistance arrives.
“Being a First Responder does not mean becoming a medical professional; it means being an ordinary person who is prepared to take the right action at the right time during an emergency,” the organisers said.
The training was conducted as part of Mission 100K, the public-oriented initiative launched by the Wisdom4Future Initiative with the objective of equipping at least one lakh people across Kerala with CPR-BLS skills and preparing ordinary citizens to respond effectively to life-threatening emergencies.
A safe school is not merely a school with safe buildings. True safety lies in having trained people who can respond immediately when a life is at risk.
Aster Medcity and the Wisdom4Future Initiative aim to expand such training programmes to more schools across Kerala and make the vision of “Every School – First Responders” a reality.
