Described as India’s first education policy of the 21st century, NEP 2020 is designed to meet the evolving needs of a rapidly changing nation. It seeks to move beyond traditional learning models by focusing on critical thinking, foundational literacy and numeracy, analytical reasoning, and ethical values.
The Chief Minister underlined that NEP 2020 places strong emphasis on aligning education with India’s cultural and intellectual heritage. The policy promotes a holistic, flexible, and learner-centric approach, blending modern education with ancient Indian knowledge systems across disciplines like mathematics, science, philosophy, literature, agriculture, and medicine.
By preserving and revitalizing India’s rich educational traditions, the policy aims to nurture informed and value-driven citizens who are confident in their identity and rooted in their heritage. This vision also includes a shift from rote learning to experiential and inquiry-based education that encourages creativity, scientific thinking, and innovation.
The policy framework also emphasizes inclusivity, aiming to provide equitable access to high-quality education for all sections of society. NEP 2020 supports the development of a robust educational infrastructure that fosters a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for learners.
The seminar also highlighted the contribution of social and cultural movements like the Arya Samaj, which played a pivotal role in India’s educational awakening by promoting women's empowerment, moral values, and a revival of Vedic learning. These ideas continue to influence the direction of the country’s education system today.
Speakers at the event stressed the importance of shifting perceptions of education from being merely a means of livelihood to being the foundation of responsible citizenship and personal development. The event brought together academics, policymakers, and thought leaders who shared insights on implementing NEP’s objectives on the ground.
Prominent attendees included officials from national education bodies, vice-chancellors, and representatives from institutions focused on the promotion of Indian knowledge systems.
The three-day seminar will feature extensive discussions on topics such as integrating Indian values into curricula, strengthening foundational education, and aligning learning outcomes with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4).
Through this initiative, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting an education system that is future-ready, culturally enriched, and globally relevant, while remaining deeply rooted in Indian ethos.
